In all our endeavours, we strive to fulfil the following Vision & Purpose that God has given us:
“To make Jesus Christ known through integrated ministry, in partnership with the global church, amongst the neediest peoples of Asia and the Arab World.”
| Serving across Cultures |
Why will someone leave their homeland and go to a foreign land to live as a stranger? There are millions who move out of their homeland to other lands. Some do for the sake of higher education and others for a career. Many go unwillingly because of war, political conflict, communal riots or even natural disasters.
People who go to another land face many challenges. Living as strangers they try to find acceptance among people who are different from them by dressing like them, eating like them and living like them. Some of us are called to live as strangers in an unknown land! We go in obedience to a higher call. Jesus commanded those who follow him to go to the ends of the world. The first disciples obeyed and went to other lands sharing the Good News. Today many Indian followers of Jesus who are professionals and entrepreneurs have the opportunity to do the same. Interserve will come alongside you to enable you to obey the higher calling. |
| Servants for Hard Places |
There are more ministry opportunities in the workplace than inside church buildings. It is this place that needs to become our pulpits to share the reason for our faith. We need to make the workplace our prayer altars where we serve as priests for our co-workers interceding for their needs.
Everybody is equally called – whether the person is an accountant, electrician, teacher, engineer, software professional, journalist, sportsman, banker, cine-artist, in business, preacher, missionary, pastor or a home-maker. Some people assume that work is a curse, while others look upon it as a calling. When we consider ‘work’ as a gift and calling of God, then our daily work brings satisfaction and joy. The hard places are not always the remote tribal village or the slums in our cities and towns. The place where we work daily and the neighbourhood we live can be hard places to model Christ-like characteristics.
Living and working in a culture where Christ is least known in a rural or urban setting is where we are called to serve. Interserve will come alongside you to serve effectively in hard places. |
| Transforming Lives and Communities |
Paul stayed deep in thought. Then, softly running his fingers through her hair, he murmured, “Iris, if anything happens to me, will you stay back with your parents in Madras?” For a moment Iris shut her eyes tight. Tears choked her. She reached out for her husband’s hand and gripped it firmly. Her voice came huskily as she said, “Athan, I have taken on your passion for these people (the Bondos). I will not stay in Madras. I will go back to Malkangiri. I promise you, I will come back to Malkangiri and work here till the day I die.”
Paul went to be with the Lord soon afterwards. But Iris Paul, true to her promise returned to work in Malkangiri. In more than 25 years that she has been working there, many changes have taken place. A few years back when Government officials surveyed the villages that Iris and her workers have been serving. They found that there was a ten times increase in the literacy rate, polio has been eliminated and the percentage of cases of whooping cough has dropped drastically.
But much more than these statistics are the innumerable number of lives that have been changed, the true measure of which will be known only in eternity. All this transformation was the result of obedience to God’s call by a couple! Iris is one of our long standing workers at Interserve . We will come alongside people who want to obey God’s call to transform lives and communities! |
| Serving the whole needs of humanity |
During His time on earth, Jesus once asked “Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?” This is a relevant question even in these modern times when so much of our energy, time and money is spent revolving around preparing and consuming food or buying and wearing clothes. The toil of a lifetime becomes meaningless unless God is involved in these pursuits. It is God's gift to find satisfaction and enjoy our work and life on earth.
Jesus teaches us to seek the right priorities and goals in life. God has given us the choice of how much of our time we are going to spend for food, clothing, entertainment, holidays etc., and how much time we will spend in worshipping Him and sharing the Good News. There are millions of people who struggle to meet their basic needs of food, clothing and shelter both within our country and in other countries in South Asia, the Arab World, Central Asia, Far East and South East Asia.
Millions of people are torn by political turmoil, disasters and poverty and are hungry for the good news of love and peace. Do you want to make it a priority to obey Jesus? Interserve will come alongside you to set the right priorities and goals in your life. |
| Discipling Peoples |
The Great Commission (Matthew 28:23 & 24) dominates most of our mission motivation. We always place emphasis on obeying the command to 'Go' and 'Baptize'. Unfortunately, many of our mission fields illustrate our failure in providing adequate discipleship. Discipleship then becomes just a task in the process. We are called to disciple 'nations'. 'Nations' does not just mean ethnic communities or people groups as it is popularly known, it also means political nations.
Abraham was called to be a blessing to the nations. Israel was chosen to be a blessing to other nations. Joseph’s interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream brought the whole Egypt and other nations to follow God’s instruction during the great famine. Daniel and his friends witnessed to the king influencing the whole empire. Esther influenced the whole nation. Our God is the ruler of all the nations.
Discipling a nation does not mean just leading an individual to follow Christ but leading a whole nation, community or society in the 'way of the Lord'. Paul was seeking to disciple the whole Roman Empire and so he strategically placed himself in various cities. India is not the only nation God is concerned about. As much as God brought people from other nations to preach the Gospel to us, He has called India to take the Gospel to other nations.
Let us together disciple whole nations! |
